Nepal has been facing one of the biggest earthquake disasters in the history. There was 8.3 rector scale earthquake in 1934 which have caused many life losing, infrastructure damage and injury to thousands of people.
After 1934, Nepal has faced another biggest disaster. The earthquake of 25 April 2015 was 7.6-rector scale that caused many lives losing and injury. The origin of the earthquake was reported Gorkha district of Nepal. It has been estimated that 8 million people in 39 districts have been affected, of which over 2 million people live in the 11 severely affected districts. More than 4000 people have lost their life. More than 8000 people has seriously injured and admitted in the Hospital. Many are still stocked in debris of collapsed building (Radio Nepal and Kantipur FM).
The priority needs are identified as food, water, shelter and medication. Over 1.4 million people are in need of food assistance.
BHAKTAPUR
Two churches have been totally collapsed in Bhaktapur. The Earthquake has affected many churches building. One of the Pastors of Bhaktapur shared, “More than 40 families have badly affected by the Earthquake. Their houses are total collapsed. We all church members are staying together. We do not have enough tents and food. We are somehow managing drinking water.”
One of the member of Bhaktapur Christian Fellowship shared, “ 15 members of our churches lost their houses. All the clothes, food and other household items are under the debris. We are still feeling shakes. We did not dare to go inside. We have put our temporary tent outside though not enough for all. Now we need food and tents immediately.”
One of the Pastors of the Balkot shared, “ Our church are cracked due to earthquake. We called all our members to church and we staying together praying for Nepal. There are also non-Christian came to church for shelter. Now we really need help to make shelter for all and provide food and drinking water.”
Pastor of Shalom church Bhaktapur said, “ House of one members collapsed. Church members are staying under open sky. They are requesting for tents, food and water for minimum 15 families.”
More than 200 Christian families are affected seriously from the earthquake. There is need of tents, food and waters to make them survive in this critical stage.
KATHMANDU
Three churches collapsed in Kathmandu. Many churches are cracked and two churches have been reported collapsed in Kathmandu till now. More than 50 Christians people have lost their life in collapsed churches and many of them are still being rescued from debris of the collapsed building.
NUWAKOT:
According to one of the pastors of Nuwakot, more than 90% of houses are collapsed. Many churches have collapsed too. Three churches collapsed and more than 4 people till now has lost their life. The pastor is trying to connect to the local churches and community people but it was being hard for him to establish communication due to network problems.
According to one of the NGO worker, more than 560 people died in Nuwakot. Many are still to count since they are stocked in the debris of the collapsed houses. Many schools, which were made of clay and stones, have collapsed.
SINDHUPALCHOWK
According to a local pastor, one church has collapsed killing 9 church members on the spot. Many churches are cracked. Many Christian families have lost their houses. Many people are stocked in the debris not there are need of rescue team in the area. Since the houses are collapsed, there are need of food, water and shelter to the people. It is raining so that shelter and medicine are the need.
