Is AIDS a punishment

Read Luke 13:1-5

As the Jews heard this news, they wanted to know why God had ‘punished’ those Galileans like that. Had it been for their own sins – or the sins of others? Jesus said ‘No’.

He reminded them of another story – when a tower had collapsed, killing 18 people. Had these people died because they had sinned more than others? Again, Jesus said ‘No’. But he went on to say that such sudden death was a reminder to all of us that death is nothing – nothing compared with the tragedy of dying without God.

AIDS is always a tragic waste of a human life. In some cases, the person may have been careless in their behaviour. In many other cases, no-one knew the risks. Jesus reminds us that we all sin. Jesus would teach that the tragedy of AIDS is a warning to us all of a greater tragedy ahead if we reject God.

लूका १३:१-५ पढ्नुहोस्।

यहूदीहरूले यो खबर सुनेपछि, परमेश्वरले गालील निवासीहरूलाई त्यसरी किन ‘दण्ड’ दिनुभयो भनेर जान्ने इच्छा गरे। के यो उनीहरूको आफ्नै पापको कारण भएको थियो – कि अरुको पापको कारण भएको थियो? येशूले भन्नुभयो- ‘होइन’।

एड्स सधैँ नै मानव जीवनको दु:खपूर्ण क्षति हो। कुनै अवस्थाहरूमा त्यो व्यक्तिले आफ्नो व्यवहारमा वेवास्ता गरेको हुन सक्छ। अन्य थुप्रै अवस्थाहरूमा कसैलाई पनि त्यो जोखिमको बारेमा ज्ञान थिएन। हामी सबैले पाप गर्छौं भनेर येशूले सम्झाउनु हुन्छ। परमेश्वरलाई इन्कार गर्दा हुने अझ ठूलो दु:खको चेतावनी एड्स हो भनेर येशूले सिकाउनुहुन्थ्यो होला।
