Loving our enemies

Read Acts 6 and 7
Stephen was a young man richly blessed by God and full of power. He performed great miracles and wonders among the people. But some people did not like him. They started arguing with Stephen, but God gave him great wisdom and no-one could stand against him. So, they bribed some men to tell lies about Stephen.

Finally, he was arrested and brought before the Council (the highest religious court of the Jews) and the High Priest. When Stephen appeared before this awesome group, he had so much peace that his face shone like that of an angel. After he had given a speech challenging these leaders for rejecting God’s salvation, they became angry, chased him out of the city and stoned him to death. As Stephen lay dying, he had no hatred for his persecutors. With love in his heart, his final prayer was, ‘Lord, do not hold this sin against them.’

?) Fairness means that those who do wrong must be judged and punished. Does this reading agree with this? What lessons are there here for us as Christians?

Quietly read I Corinthians 13:4-13. To examine our love for others, replace the word ‘love’ with your own name all the way through. For example: ‘Mary is patient and kind. Mary is not jealous.’Note down areas in our lives that need change.

हाम्रो शत्रुलाई प्रेम गर्ने

प्रेरित ६ र ७ पढ्नुहोस्।

स्तिफनस जवान व्यक्ति थिए। उनी परमेश्वरद्बारा प्रशस्त आशिष पाएका र शक्तिले पूर्ण मानिस थिए। उनले मानिसहरू माझमा ठूला ठूला अचम्मका कामहरू गरे र आश्चर्य कर्महरू गरे। तर केही मानिसहरूले उनलाई रुचाएनन्। तिनीहरूले उनीसँग विवाद गर्न थाले, तर परमेश्वरले उनलाई धेरै बुद्धि दिनुभएको थियो, त्यसैले कोही पनि विरुद्धमा टिक्न सकेनन्। त्यसकारण तिनीहरूले उनको विरुद्धमा झूठो गवाही दिनलाई पैसा दिए।

त्यसकारण अन्तमा उनलाई पक्रे र महासभा (यहूदीहरूको उपल्लो धार्मिक न्यायालय) र प्रधान पूजाहारीको सामू उभ्याए। जब स्तिफनस यो डरलाग्दो समूहको अगाडि उभिए, उनी भित्र यति धेरै शान्ति थियो कि उनको मुहार स्वर्गदूतको जस्तै गरी चम्कियो। उनले यी अगुवाहरूलाई परमेश्वरको मुक्तिलाई तिरस्कार गरेको विषयमा चुनौतीपूर्ण भाषण दिएपछि, ती मानिसहरू यति क्रूर भए कि तिनीहरूले उनलाई शहरदेखि बाहिर लखेटेर ढुङ्गाले हानेर मारे। स्तिफनस भूइँमा मरेतुल्य भएर लडिरहँदा पनि उनमा विरोधीहरू प्रति कुनै घृणा थिएन। उनको हृदयमा भएको प्रेम सहित उनले अन्तमा यसरी प्रार्थना गरे, ”प्रभु यो पापको दोष यिनीहरूलाई नलागोस्।”

(?) गलती गर्नेले न्यायमा जानुपर्छ र सजाय पाउनुपर्छ।यही नै न्याय हो।के यो कुरा र माथिको कुरा एक आपसमा मिल्छ? ख्रीष्टियन भएको नाताले हाम्रो लागि यहाँ कस्ता कस्ता पाठहरू छन्?

१कोरिन्थी १३:४-१३ मनमनै पढ्नुहोस्। अरुको निम्ति हाम्रो प्रेमलाई जाँच गर्न, ‘प्रेम’ शब्दको सट्टामा आफ्नै नाम राखेर, पूरै खण्ड पढ्नुहोस्। उदाहरणको लागि: ”सीता धीरजी र दयालु हुन्छ। सीताले डाह गर्दिनन्।” हाम्रो जीवनमा परिवर्तनको खाँचो भएका क्षेत्रहरूलाई विचार गर्नुहोस्।
