Poignant statement: Greet each day with your eyes open to beauty, your mind open to change, and your heart open to love.
Subject: Each day God’s Gift
Scripture: Psalm 118:24
It is very interesting to note that in the West people are obsessed with daily weather. They always seem to be discussing about the weather and at times their moods seem to change according the weather of the day. I went to a village church in England and in that meeting the lady pastor was very upset that the day was not good. She kept saying that ‘the day was rubbish’ with great frustration. She was more concern about the weather of the day than the church service she had to conduct. I was sitting quietly in a corner with great peace in my heart before my preaching. I was not oblivious to the fact that the wind was howling outside and there was black cloud and the place was miserably cold but I also knew that each day is freshly created by God.
Some years ago I too used to grumble about bad weather. One morning I was reading the Psalm 118:24 “This is the day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it”. I had read this portion several times in the past but that day God clearly told me never to grumble. From that day on when there is temptation to grumble I have always remembered the day and instead of gripping I am grateful to God for each day. Each day is spring for me and I celebrate each day as a fresh day for me. I am able to face rain or sunshine with a thankful heart and this has made such a great difference in my life particularly in the early part of the day.
Many people face each day reactively and not proactively. But when we get up in the morning with a positive attitude of the day then we begin to face each day with positive enthusiasm. We also clearly know that at times despite a beautiful day we feel down. Sometime when I am feeling low in the morning I just go and lie down in any corner for a few minutes and pray to God to rejuvenate me. Then when I get up I feel refreshed to take on the rest of the day. I never complain about the weather no matter what.
I know we as humans want each day to be balmy and just right but God has created this world with variation of the weather patterns. If we did not have diverse weather patterns then we and the earth would not survive at all. God in His great wisdom created this world with absolute perfect precision and beauty.
We are always complaining about many things in life because we always look at what we do not have rather than what we have. There are many people on this earth who face each day with hunger, hurt, pain and all sorts of misery. I am sure some of you are going through a hard time in your life right now and for you each day is no joy but tears. But when you get up in the morning learn to commit each day to the Lord and you will experience the difference. Like nature we also go through various seasons of life and so we need to be ready and prepared to face each day with positive attitude and worshipful heart.
In our home we have a couple who have a two year old kid and she is full of life. Each morning she comes bounding to our room and her radiant face energizes us. She knows it is a new day and it is going to be wonderful. There is expectation and joy written all over her face. She reminds me again and again to behave and think like her. At times when she is sick she clings to her dear mother and just trust that her mom is going to look after her. She has absolute trust in her mom. Beloved when life is not what you expect and each day is a torture then just lean on the Lord and He will lighten your pain, hurt and suffering.
Each day no matter rain or sunshine, is a new day and created by God for a particular reason. When we get up from bed and look out the window we should praise God. We say to ourselves ‘This day is His gift to me for today and I will be happy’. The Psalmist says that he will rejoice and be glad in it. He has made up his mind and so should we.
Seek God each morning and go out to your world with joy in your heart because no matter what the Lord is going to be with you. Here is a small poem that may motivate and inspire you
I met God in the morning
When my day was at its best,
And His presence came like sunrise
Like a glory in my breast.
All day long the Presence lingered;
All day long He stayed with me.
And we sailed with perfect calmness
O’er a very troubled sea.
Other ships were blown and battered,
Other ships were sore distressed;
But the winds that seemed to drive them
Brought to us a peace and rest.
Then I thought of other mornings
With a keen remorse of mind,
When I, too, had loosed the moorings
With the Presence left behind.
So I think I know the secret,
Learned from many a troubled way.
You must seek God in the morning
If you want Him through the day.
Poignant statement: Greet each day with your eyes open to beauty, your mind open to change, and your heart open to love.
Prayer: Lord, help me to know that each day is lovingly created by you. May I always live each day with worship, wonder and worthy of you. May people see me not with a grumpy but a grateful heart.
