Organisation Background:
Human Development and Community Services (HDCS) is a faith-based NGO working in three main sectors of health, education, and community development since 1991. Currently, it manages various projects across Nepal especially in rural areas and provides services through hospitals, health camps, public health programs, disaster preparedness and response, school development programs, teacher training, educational daycare centres for children with special needs and community radio stations. The organisation is aiming to launch a One Health Project in Rukum West. One Health Concept:
HDCS is implementing an innovative project in Rukum West based upon the notion of ‘One Health’, highlighting the links between human, animal and environmental health. We will be working with local community groups, focusing on two main streams of activities:
- Awareness raising: educating community groups in health and hygiene related subjects including At the same time there will be teaching on animal health and how the two intersect. The environmental health part will focus on household waste management and the impacts on the other two areas. The project will also reach local schools with this topic.
- Practical implementation: we will establish model farms, which will demonstrate the benefits of implementing safe One Health practices. We will show the benefits of eco-friendly farming, crop diversification, and other practices such as segregating animals from humans and reducing the use of A ‘One Health Centre’ will be established as a training and research base where local people will come to learn more about improved farming techniques.
Responsibilities:
The One Health Project Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of the One Health project, including staff management. The project coordinator will ensure successful implementation and monitoring of all project activities, including the budget. He/she will also be responsible for developing relevant training programmes for the selected community groups on the various project topics. Promote the One Health concept through appropriate initiatives. Equip and advise in establishing and multiplying model farm enterprises. Ensure local model enterprises are aligned with the One Health concept. Facilitate community stakeholder meetings and report to concerned authorities.
Deliverables:
- Manage project staff to ensure all activities are carried out according to the project plan and budget
- Timely activity and financial reporting to Head Office
- Monitor and evaluate project to ensure outcomes are achieved
- Ensuring development of training programmes and materials
- Further training of selected model farmers on the topic of environmentally friendly agriculture and training of their skills (ToT)
- Identify potential community groups
- Equipment and advice for the establishment of model enterprises
- Conduct community stakeholder meetings
Requirements:
- At least a bachelor’s degree or above with specialization in the fields of Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock, Nutrition Science, Development studies, Project Management, Environmental Science, Natural resource management or other relevant
- Minimum 5 years of relevant work
- Motivated for result-based management with dynamic team player capacity
- Self-motivated and comfortable working in rural situation
- Strong analytical problem-solving ability and creativity to develop new systems to the project
- Experience in training design and delivery, project planning and people management
- Learning attitude and willingness to develop technical expertise
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Nepal

Post: Disaster Risk Reduction (DDR) Coordinator

Responsibilities:
The DRR Coordinator will be responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) strategies for HDCS’s projects and communities.
The position involves disaster preparedness, disaster management in the event of a crisis, and the implementation of risk reduction strategies for hospitals, community groups, and local schools. The role also includes project management in DRR relevant themes and conducting training to empower communities and staff in disaster preparedness.
Responsibilities shortlist: Disaster Risk Reduction and Preparedness, Disaster Response and Management, Project Management and Reporting, Training and Capacity Building, Collaboration and Advocacy, Monitoring and Evaluation, Further tasks as per need in coordination with line management
Conditions:
This is a full-time position with 40 working hours per week and includes possible overtime in disaster situations. The employment contract will be on a yearly basis, with necessary extensions as per project and organizational needs. The position is based in Kathmandu with frequent travel to HDCS Project and Disaster Response areas.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with specialization in fields such as Project Management, DRR, Administration, Engineering, IT Programming, Social Science, Health, Environmental Science, Economics, or other.
- Minimum 3 years of work experience in the area of project management and/or DRR in development sector
- Experience in DRR sector like Disaster Preparation, Mitigation, Response, Anticipatory Action
- Highly autonomous working style and capacity to co-develop own solutions where there is no pre-determined way
- Strong analytical problem-solving mindset and creativity to develop new systems to the project
- Experience in data collection, administering questionnaires and conducting interviews, data collection and data entry
- Learning attitude and willingness to develop technically
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Nepali
