Government of Nepal tried to interfere in the Nepali religious sphere by appointing new priests in Pashupati Nath temple last week, breaking hundreds of year’s tradition. This was protested by Nepali and Indian Hindu’s, different political parties and the general public.
After the overwhelming protest from all sided the government had to reverse their decision on the matter. It is hoped that government of Nepal has learnt a lesson from this incident that state should not interfere in religious groups. No religion will tolerate any interference in the name of Cultural Revolution in the secular and democratic country of Nepal.
Overturning his earlier decision Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has requested the old priests to continue Puja at the Hindu shrine.
Addressing the parliament, Wednesday, he said that the government will abide by the decision of the Supreme Court (SC), which had earlier issued an interim order asking the government not to use new priests for Puja at Pashupatinath temple.
