When I was five years old my mother took me to a school in Tadung, Sikkim. The classroom was made of bamboo and wooden floor. My first class was known as Dhunge class. In order to teach Ka in Nepali the teacher would ask us to go out and gather tiny stones. After we brought them in the class we had to put on the letter which our teacher had written on the wooden floor and that is how we learned to read and write. Today I can read voluminous English and Nepali books but the foundation was laid early and in a very basic manner and by today’s standard in a crude way. Well this week I thought of giving you a very basic (Dhunge class) teaching on the Word of God so that you will know what you need to believe. When you know and believe in these simple truths then you can learn higher truths. Go on from here to higher truths. We need to know and believe some basics of our Christian faith and there are many excellent lessons on this subject but let me give you perhaps the simplest one for you to think about. Graduate from here to more complex matters but do not neglect this.
We are called out from
Sure death and destruction. Romans 6:23
We are called from darkness. Col 1:13
We are called from following ways of the world. Eph. 2:2
We are called with an offer of new things:
New life IICor 5:17
New family Rom 1:12
New community Acts 2:42
New Identity I Pet 2:9
New hope John 14:1,2
We are called for certain responsibilities
To be a witness Acts 1:8
To be a light Mt. 5:14
To worship Col 3:16
To share Acts 2:44
The verses and the matters mentioned above are by no means exhaustive yet they are just a minimal thing a Christian must be aware of at all times. These simple truths are profound and will have eternal impact if we believe in them. At times I am really sorry for those preachers and believers who emphasis only on healing and material prosperity when we believe in Jesus Christ. I am a firm believer in healing and have ministered to sick people all the time and seen healing. I believe that when we believe in Jesus, the Lord blesses us materially as has been the experience of many saints of God. But these things are by products of our faith and so we need to keep focusing our minds and hearts on those things which a thief will not steal, moth will not eat and rust will not corrode. There will be a time when there will be no healing and even time of material loss but when we believe in Jesus we will not lose things of eternal value. Jim Elliot was one of the men of God who were killed by Auca tribe in South America. He said “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.” It is so true and Biblical. We need to believe, practice and teach these eternal truths to the people of God. The Lord Jesus said “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and these things will be added unto you”. What He meant is that a believer has to make up his mind to follow the Lord no matter what and let the Lord bless us in any way he pleases. It is His will and we delight to do His will in our life. Any believer who believes in this simple teaching lives in peace and joy at all time.
Prayer: Lord, teach us to know who we are and what you have done and what your purposes are in our lives. Lord, help us to seek you and no one else and nothing else.
