More than two hundred people have died in a diarrhoea epidemic in Western Nepal, the most remote and poorest region of the country. Rukum, Rolpa, Surkhet, Jajarkot districts are most affected by the epidemic. Despite the fact that the first deaths occurred about three months ago, the government is only now intervening to stop the spread of the epidemic to the rest of the country. Prime Minister, himself visited the affected area but still the situation is not under control.
The younger population is fleeing from the affected area for fear of contagion, leaving the elderly alone in the villages. Christian’s all over Nepal are worried about this situation. At last some of the pastor’s in Kathmandu have decided to take action to save lives in the affected area.
Fund is being collected now and soon a team of pastors and medical personnel will visit the affected area and give service to the sick in first hand. The team has also planning to mobilize the church in those areas to control the epidemic.
