Pressing on to the Goal …

The in-depth challenging Bible studies brought to us through our speaker Mr. Mathew Varghese, one of the IFES regional resource persons confirmed the vision we have received in NBCBS as the vision of God Himself for the student world and we are called and empowered to participate in the mission of God fulfilling that vision. It was an awesome challenge but grasped and internalized by the most participants.

This was the theme for our 5th National Conference bringing together 300 delegates representing over 55 student groups (CBS) and graduate fellowships (CGF) from all over Nepal. This was very special as we could not hold the one we had planned last year due to the political and social turmoil in the country then. We sensed that the Lord is speaking to us very specifically about what He wants us to be doing in the days ahead, praise God.

The seminars on our Mission on the Campus, Traps facing the  youth in the world today, Role of Christian students in the nation building, NBCBS- its working styles and Leadership roles in the student committees were meaningful and demanded a realistic commitment from each of the participants. An open session allowing the participants to raise questions regarding NBCBS, its functioning was very useful.

The National Council meeting, the formal General Body meeting of NBCBS as a movement was a time of looking back at the 30 plus years of our history, its development and acknowledging the miracles the Lord has done in our midst. We had reports from the National Executive Committee, General Secretary and the staff regarding the activities and some indication regarding the direction we may take ahead. Our COR Chairman Dr. R.K.Rongong chaired the NC deliberations.

A new National Executive Committee representing the Council of Reference, Graduates Fellowship and five regions of CBS constituency has been elected and dedicated for the next three year term. The NEC continue to be led by Rev. Samuel Bomzon as the President. The family gathering on the 3rd day evening bringing together Church and Christian organizational leaders from around Kathmandu was a great time of fellowship. NBCBS is well supported by its graduates and friends and we felt that togetherness in Christ and His mission.

Mr. KP Devkota, our General Secretary has been elevated to be the Regional Secretary for South Asia as from November 2009. The Council Of Reference and the National Executive together has invited Mr. P A Thomas, former General Secretary to consider being the Acting General Secretary smoothening the transition till we find a full time  GS for NBCBS. This has been endorsed by the National Council and hence we had a time for praying for both the families and NEC in the evening family get- together.

NBCBS is being registered with the government as a Non Governmental Organization and hence we need your prayers as we look forward to function as a legally authentic movements in the days ahead.
