The Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches (PCEC) was established in 1964 by a group of Filipino Christian leaders who were seeking to organize an association that would articulate their unity in Jesus Christ as one citizen of a country and to make it representative of Evangelical Christian as a distinct convention to enhance the growing force of the believers and to give necessary weight to the evangelism in the country. This organization has consent among the representing denominations and some other independent churches to make it an avenue of defense of the fundamental faith in the Scriptures and o make joint effort evangelize the country regardless of the places and provinces, tribes and the cultural differences. It has been addressing the need to have a evidently evangelical witness. These were the primary factors that encouraged the inception of the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches (PCEC).
Initially PCEC was formed in a small coverage of having only a fewer numbers of representatives from handful churches and denominations, though it was considered as an umbrella organization to them, and gradually it has grown into the largest nationwide network of denominations, churches, mission groups and para-church organizations. It seeks to become the main catalyst in speeding up the discipleship movement in the Philippines for the Lord Jesus Christ by promoting unity and cooperative efforts of ministries, presenting a distinctive evangelical urges. It is also attempts to make adequate presence to the government of every levels central to the provincial and local as well. It has motivated to engaging the every ministries of the Philippine Churches that would be the direct help to the poor and needy and help them uplifting them to become economically self-reliant by discipling them to grow into proper relationship with God and Jesus Christ.
PCEC envisions to disciple every Filipino as the committed follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, which ultimately will contribute establishing a society where peace, justice and righteousness of God will reign, and where every people will have a respectable standard of living, where Christ is acknowledged as Lord of all. To make it happened it urges the member body to take the role of being catalyst as an agent of the transformation, which results in multiplication of the evangelical churches that will transform the communities to be Christ-centered in every aspect of their lives.
PCEC has a constant soliciting stand for the sole defend and maintaining of the evangelical heritage. Thus the member churches are encouraged to attain right and solid understanding of the biblical mandates for lives and firm standing on historical reflection by being aware of contemporary challenges to the faith. PCEC opens its door to all groups that share the same evangelical stands, and also attempts to nurture and make possible dialogue promoting evangelical teachings by providing resourceful cooperation with other Christian churches and organizations.
