I’m in Thailand with my wife since 29 September. We are having good time with Brother Mak (a former missionary to Nepal who had played a key role as a missionary to establish Kathmandu Baptist Church ‘Ebenezer’) and his family. The Lord has been using them in Thailand specially among Hmong people establishing churches and strengthening them spiritually and socially. Meantime we had good opportunities for the special visits to the people and the places.
My wife Meena and I have visited Don Rulison who is 92 years old in Chiangmai, Thailand recently with Brother Mak and Bhauju Narola Sanglir. Don Rulison is a blessed brother in Christ who spent more than 40 years in Thailand preaching the gospel to Hmong People in Thailand working as a missionary. In his place brother Mak is preaching and teaching among the Hmong people and the churches established among them for last 18 years. The Lord is using brother Mak and his wife Narola so much among the Hmong people. Brother Don is still in good health by God's grace. He could talk with us easily. He remembered the old friends of Nepal still such as Pradesh Shrestha, Thomas Kaufmann. He remembered the beloved brethren in Nepal still. He prayed for us and for the ministries in Nepal along with the people in Thailand that they might be saved. He prayed that the people in Thailand are so rich but they are poor spiritually. They need Christ. Meena and I were so much inspired by seeing him.
We had a good time with some of the Nepalese Christians who are residing Chiangmai. We had good visits to Northern Border of Thailand and saw the soils of Burma and Laos. We even entered into Laos and saw the Laosian faces who are loving people and in the need of the gospel. The government of Laos is not allowing it’s people to choice for their faith. There are many Christians in prisons today just for their faith in Christ according to a Korean Missionary who is working there in a NGO. It’s good to pray for Laos. Concerning Burma I have historical relation with it. My fathers were fighting against the Japanese arm-force in 2nd World war being in British-India Government in this land. In this war Nepal had sided to British-India against the Axis Power. Especially my father had fought a great fight continually in the Burmese forests against the Japanese more than one year using a heavy machine gun. Many Nepalese soldiers had resided them in Burma after the war when they see here fertile land. This was the reason why there are so many Nepalese found in Burma today. They speak Nepali very well. Many of them are converted to Christianity. It’s good that there are no such restrictions in Burma as in Laos concerning the conversion of faith. I felt the need of prayers for the Nepalese Burmese who are residing in Thailand many of whom are not in Christ.
We went to Pua in Nan Province of Thailanad where the ministry of Brother Mak Sanglir is centered to preach the gospel among the Hmong people. Pua is about 400 KM from Chiangmai taking about 6 hours by car. We visited Kathy Home where Brother Mak has built two buildings by faith for the Hmong Children for their spiritual training and education. Brother Mak is giving Bible Studies every evening to the students who are residing in Kathey Home. God is using Brother Mak and Bhauju Narola among the Hmong people. As they are fluent in Thai and are able to communicate in Hmong they are being influential in the ministry among them.
There are four churches in the Hmong villages. They are Maesanan Church, Namsot Church, Namtoang Church and Jeegung Church. Elder Neng, Elder Mai, Elder Jer and Elder Bee are looking after these churches respectively. By 2000 Brother Mak and his fellow-workers had lost one of the ministries among the Hmong villages due to monitory influence by other Christian groups. Brother Mak is so sorry to see the event. It was the ministry in Nadoi where a small group of believers were having as a home fellowship. We attended this Sunday for the worship service in Maesanan Church. We reached there on Saturday, the 11th of October. We had a good time with Elder Neng and his family who had gone to a river early in the morning for fishing to get fishes for us. He brought plenty of fishes at home for the dinner.
That evening we went to meet Neng's sister, Nzung or Panida. When we reached there her eyes were swollen. I was little bit confused of the situation. But later I came to know that she wept a lot for her deceased husband Punchai who died in August with a stroke. This year the Lord had blessed Nzung's family with plenty of rice in their fields. It was the plan of her husband to plant more rice in larger area of their land. She had gone to see the rice field on that day. By seeing the rice field she missed her husband and wept a lot for his memory. When we reached at her home she showed her husband's photo who looked so handsome and young guy. Both of them were saved in Christ and the Lord had blessed them in their marriage and the family.
The young lady Nzung has one and half year old daughter along with other three boys. She had missed her Dad so much. Every evening she is seeking her Dad. And even that day she had asked her mother right in the rice field where was his father gone giving her opinion that her dad should be there in the field to ripe the rice. Many times Nzung replied to her little daughter for her unending questions that her father had gone to God. Then she would ask again where God is. It was a time of sorrow for all of us. We wept altogether and prayed for her. We were led to the house by Bhauju Narola.
Next day was the Lord's day. We had a time of worship in the church hall built by the believers where about 30 family used to get together for the worship service. I preached there in the service and Brother Mak translated in Thai for me. The Lord had blessed us so much among the believers. We headed to Chiangmai then after the service.
We are heading to Bangkok this Friday. There we will spend some days and will go back to Kathmandu on Monday, the 20th October. The Lord has blessed us abundantly here in Thailand with Brother Maks family and the believers here. Brother Mak and Bhauju Narola has given us a lot of blessings giving their precious time and labors along with other providences.
We are updated with the family and the church updates by our Son Adarsha and Brother Som Limbu. We are satisfied with the updates. On the 9th of October 11 people were baptized in Ebenezer. And God is using Elders Yusuph Gurung and Aram Sunuwar along with Brother Krishna Rai and Som Limbu. And Elder Pradesh from Palung is coming to Kathmandu for the sermon and Lord Supper service on 18th of October in Ebenezer.
We were so much concerned about our 4 years old little son Ananta while we were in Thailand. We had not left him for such a long time. We missed him a lot this time. One night both I and my wife had a bad dream for him as a result of our concern for him. On the next day we inquired to our Son Adarsha about him. But he was alright by God's grace. By the next day we talked with him. It was a awesome time for us. We had missed him a lot along with our other children. We will see all of them on coming Monday.
Thanks to all our brethren in Christ who had been praying for us. May God bless you all with his abundant graces. God is so good that he has blessed us so much with his blessed blessings by making us his own children putting us in heaven even today in position. Eph. 1:3. Amen.
Ps. U. J. Gurung
